During the 1800’s recovering of wrecked ships and their cargos was at its boom and was a major source of economy in Key West. The Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum takes its visitors back to the glorious historical past of Key West wreckers with its vast collections of articles actually collected from various Spanish fleets of the 16 & 1700’s. The largest collection at the museum comprises of pieces collected from the wreck of the Isaac Allerton which sank in 1856.

The salvaged artifacts from the ships are on display in the two floors of the museum and visitors are allowed to view a video presentation on the shipwrecking industry as well. Visitors get an opportunity to climb a 65-foot lookout tower from where they get the best panoramic views of the waterfront. The museum is open from 9:40 am to 5:00 pm, 365 days a year and admission fee is $12 for adults, $5 for children 4 to 12 and free for children below 4 years.
